Gifts that reduce your taxes
Stocks and securities
Supporters can use appreciated securities to fund a charitable trust or gift annuity, which can provide you, your spouse, or other beneficiaries annual income for life. You can learn more about life income gifts here.
Retirement assets
Many supporters save funds in a 401 (k) or IRA over their lifetimes and then realize they no longer need those funds as much as they once thought. Often, there may be residual funds in an account that supporters can designate to Mass General Brigham to make an impact for future generations. Learn more about designating Mass General Brigham as a beneficiary of a retirement account.
A gift of your retirement assets, such as an employee retirement plan, IRA, or tax-sheltered annuity, is an excellent way to give. A gift of these assets can shield you or your heirs from taxes while advancing the work of Mass General Brigham.
Life insurance
Name us as a beneficiary:
You can name Mass General Brigham as a beneficiary for all or part of your life insurance policy. With this gift arrangement, Mass General Brigham will receive the proceeds of your policy when you pass away, shielding your loved ones from burdensome estate taxes. You can change your beneficiary at any time.
This gift is easy to arrange — simply request a beneficiary designation form from your plan administrator. Learn more about designating Mass General Brigham as a beneficiary of a policy.
Transfer ownership now:
To make an impact on our mission today, irrevocably designate Mass General Brigham as owner and beneficiary of an existing life insurance policy. If your policy is paid up, you will receive an immediate income tax deduction for the policy’s value.
If your policy is not yet paid up, you will make cash contributions to Mass General Brigham to cover future premium payments. For any continuing premium payments you make, you will receive a charitable deduction in the year of the payment.
Personal property
A gift of artwork, coins, antiques, or other personal property can be an excellent way to support Mass General Brigham.
If you choose to create your legacy by leaving personal property to Mass General Brigham via a bequest, you may also shield your loved ones from costly estate taxes.
We encourage you to contact us to learn more about this type of gift — we would be happy to help you find the option that best fits your philanthropic goals.
